I ELECTRONIC JOURNAL ARTICLES from online databases/indexes

These indexes are available online through the library's web site, under "Databases by Title" or "Databases by Subject"

PsycINFO  --- This database is considered the primary index for journals in the field of psychology.  Click on the "Thesaurus" button to  browse the terminology used for topics in this database and then do a keyword search.    This index provides citations and abstracts from about 1,300 journals.  Find articles of interest and then find out if we have the cited journals in print or if they are available through another online database.  Make sure to check the limiters in the bottom half of the search screen to limit your search to articles about humans!  There are other useful limiters also that will narrow your search results!

Psychology and Behavioral Science Collection ---- This database is searchable and provides links to full text articles.  Also, use this database to link to the full text articles of citations you find in PsycINFO.

Expanded Academic Index ASAP --- This database indexes articles from a wide variety of journals covering a variety of topics, including psychology.  The advantage to this database is that most of its citations have links to the full text articles and you can limit your search to full text and refereed, scholarly journals.

Article First --- This is a general database that gives you the option of selecting articles from different subject areas or in different formats, such as Proceedings, PapersFirst, and Dissertations.  It covers 1990 to the present.

Annual Review of Psychology. Palo Alto, CA: Annual Review, 1950--.  ---- This is published annually and is available through Expanded Academic Index ASAP (see above).  It publishes articles in about 20 topic areas about the current research being done, internationally, in these topic areas.  Several of the covered topic areas are relevant to the study of abnormal psychology.

WEB SITES

American Psychological Association Web Site

This is most useful to browse or search by topic and see what is happening currently in clinical psychology.

APA Online (American Psychological Association) - "Psychology Matters"- Glossary

This is a great resource for looking up terminology and topics to get a quick definition.

PsychCrawler (sponsored by the APA)  -- This web site lists psychology Web sites that have been evaluated by editors with the APA.

Directory of Open Access Journals  -- Use this directory to find online journals with open access, i.e., they are free!  Once on the web site, click on Social Sciences, then click on Psychology.   Try the Internet Journal of Mental Health.

OAIster -- This is a database that helps find digital resources that usually may be hard to find using a search engine.  It is a project of the University of Michigan.  Search for your topic, or as the web site says, "find the pearls."

Easley Library Subject Internet Guides -- Use this list of evaluated web sites to browse and search for sites that may be useful in your research in psychology.  Try the categories of Clinical Psychology, Mental Health, Journals, Organizations, and News.
