What is
NetLibrary?
NetLibrary is a collection of over 53,000 electronic books, or eBooks. These books are full-text and fully searchable. To use NetLibrary
from off campus, go to the
Off-Campus Access
list of databases, click on NetLibrary, and log in like you would to access a
database.
If you are on campus, go to the
Databases by Title
list of databases, then click on NetLibrary OR use our
online
catalog and access particular NetLibrary
books through a link in the catalog. (NetLibrary
books will have a red EBook icon in the BC Online Catalog.) If
you want to see all the titles Easley Library has access to in
NetLibrary, just
type in netlibrary in a keyword search in the BC Online
Catalog (HAL).
What
kinds of books are in the NetLibrary collection?
Most of
the collection are from university presses with emphasis on
titles from regional universities in the South, e.g. University
Press of Mississippi. Many of the titles are recently published
books, from 1998-present. Other collections include Cliff Notes
and Books for Dummies. The Collection consists of over
4,000 copyright-free classics from the Project Gutenburg
collection.
How do
I perform a search?
You may
search by various fields of the eBook. Type in one word or
multiple words. Put phrases in quotation marks. Title - looks
for your keywords anywhere in the title of the eBook. You may
type the exact title of the book, or a part of the book title.
Author - looks for your keywords in the author field. Type in
john smith or smith, john, or just smith. Subject - looks for
your keywords in the Library of Congress Subject Headings given
to the eBook. Keywords - looks for your keywords anywhere in the
title, author, or subjects of the eBook. Full Text - looks for
your keywords anywhere within the entire eBook. Use unique
words, unless you want 300 results. Publisher - limit your
search to a particular publisher using the drop-down menu.
NetLibrary will rank the results based on the frequency of the
keywords, with a maximum of 300 results. To limit by publication
date or to sort the results other than a ranked retrieval, click
on Power Search.
How do
I read an eBook?
Click on "View This Book." You can then
view the Table of Contents, keyword
search the text, or jump to a particular page.
Click on "close this item" when finished with the ebook.
To use features such as "Add to favorites" you will have to
create a free account. Also, you can create an account if
you'd like to go directly to NetLibrary from a bookmark, rather
than through the library's web page. You will have to
create the account in NetLibrary through the off-campus link.
Thereafter, you will be able to access NetLibrary without going
through the library's web page.
