Academic OneFile - a database with more than 9,000 titles in all academic subjects, of which nearly 7,000 are peer-reviewed, also includes the full-text of the NY Times from 1995, the full-text of the Financial Times, and Times of London from 1985.

Alternative Press Index (via FirstSearch) - indexes almost 300 alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers, and magazines.

American Chemical Society - web editions of approximately 33 journals.

American Civil War: Letters and Diaries - more than 1,000 sources of diaries, letters, and memoirs to provide access to thousands of views on almost every aspect of the war, including what was happening at home.

American Education Research Association (AERA) - E-Journals in Education.  Scholarly, peer-reviewed, full-text journals. 

Anistoriton - An electronic journal of History, Archaeology, Art History.  It has scholarly papers from 1997 on and is searchable.  All submissions to the journal are peer-reviewed.

Article First (via FirstSearch) - index to articles from 12,500 journals; 1990 to present.

Arts & Humanities Search (via FirstSearch) - index to 1,300 arts and humanities journals, 1980-

ARTstor - digital library of over 300,000 art images and associated information. Prehistoric to contemporary, international in scope, includes architecture, painting, sculpture, photography, decorative arts and design. To use, enable cookies, Java scripts, disable pop-up blockers. Technical help.

Associations Unlimited - online version of Encyclopedia of Associations (trade and not-for-profit organizations).

ATLA Religion Database and ATLAS (full-text journals) - Subjects: Biblical studies, church history, history of religions, sociology & psychology of religion, and related topics. Contents: Religion Index One, Religion Index Two, and Index to Book Reviews in Religion are combined to provide access to 450+ journals, plus essays, book reviews, and dissertations. Now includes full-text to approximately 75 periodicals. Published by the American Theological Library Association. Coverage: 1949-present. Updated twice yearly.

Biography Resource Center - comprehensive database of biographical information for persons from virtually every field and era. Reference sources include American Decades, Contemporary Authors, Encyclopedia of World Biography, Contemporary Musicians, Contemporary Black Biography, Directory of American Scholars, Religious Leaders of America, International Dictionary of Art and Artists - and many more. Coverage: varies. Updated every 1-3 months (periodicals daily).

Britannica Online - full-text encyclopedia, plus Internet Guide and Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

Business & Company Resource Center - by company, industry, subject, place, or personal name, provides full text articles and press releases, investment reports, detailed corporate hierarchies, company histories, brand and product information, industry and company rankings, financial and industry overviews, and HR law case digests for domestic and international companies. Includes full content of 2458 periodicals.

Consumer Index (via FirstSearch) - index to consumer information from 240 periodicals, 1996-

Contemporary Women's Issues (via FirstSearch) - information on women world-wide, bringing together the areas of sociology, psychology, health, education, & human rights. Coverage: full-text access to journals, newspapers, newsletters, fact sheets, bibliographies, research reports. 1992-present. Updated bimonthly.

Criminal Justice Periodicals Index- includes full-text of over 75 journals and indexes and abstracts over 190 US and international journals, from 1981 forward.

Digital Library of Appalachia - seeks to provide online access to archival and historical images and materials related to the culture of the southern and central Appalachian region. The over 1000 items in the database include reproductions of photographs, reformatted typed pages, published books, unpublished manuscripts, personal diaries and correspondence, journal and newspaper articles, musical recordings, oral history recordings and transcripts, and other related reproductions.

Directory of Open Access Journals - covers free, full-text, quality-controlled scientific and scholarly journals.

Dissertations (via FirstSearch) - index to dissertations and theses from institutions in North America and Europe.

Early American Imprints - full-text digitization of the microform set Early American Imprints, Series I (1639-1800), which was itself based on the American Bibliography of Charles Evans (14 vols., 1903-34, 1955-59).

Early Encounters in North America - sources from diaries, letters, and memoirs about the people, cultures, and environment.

Electronic Journals Library - Multidisciplinary.  Search for journals by title or subject and access content.

Encyclopedia of Life Sciences - the web version of a twenty-volume encyclopedia, updated regularly.

ERIC - offers citations & abstracts to journal articles & resources related to the field of education. Indexes curriculum materials, teaching guides, lesson plans, program descriptions, research reports, conference proceedings, plus articles from over 800 educational and education-related journals. Produced by the Educational Resource Information Center. Coverage: 1966-present. Updated monthly.

Expanded Academic Index ASAP - full-text articles and abstracts in all academic subject areas.

Factiva -a web-based information service that provides powerful tools for searching and monitoring global news and business.

FactsonFile.com - full-text version of Facts-on-File. Note: failure to access database may occur when campus network system is heavily used.

Geobase (via FirstSearch) - index to worldwide literature on geography, geology, and ecology.

Google Scholar - searches scholarly literature, to include peer-reviewed papers, dissertations, book citations, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from a variety of content providers. Some full text material is available.  (About)

GPO Database (via FirstSearch) - index to U.S. Government agencies.

Grove Art Online - provides web access to the entire text of The Dictionary of Art (1996, 34 vols.) with annual additions of new material and updates to the text.

Grove Music Online - full text of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, The New Grove Dictionary of Opera, and The New Grove Dictionary of Jazz.

HarpWeek - enables you to directly experience the full-text richness and historical significance of Harper’s Weekly, America's leading 19th century illustrated newspaper.

 

 

History Resource Center -  access to more than 5,000 original documents, over 100 journals and other periodicals with full-text access to articles, references resources including the 9-11 Commission Report; search by person, subject or time period use a chronological timeline; use the Student Research Guide for help writing history papers.  Also includes resources for faculty. 

 

Ingenta - internet-based index to over 33,000 academic and professional publications, by subject area.

Internet Public Library - "An educational, research, and service laboratory...maintaining a balanced and broadly representative collection of web sites for information, reference and research."

 JAKE  - a free resource that identifies databases worldwide that index a journal. Just type in the title of your journal. (not always up to date)

JSTOR - (Journal Storage) a full-text scholarly journal collection consisting of back issues of journals in many different subject areas; some of the journals go back to the 1800's.

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe - Subjects: news, business, legal, medical and reference information. Contents: Provides access to a variety of full-text sources, including world-wide newspapers, magazines, news wires, and trade journals. Also features government documents, state & federal laws and regulations, case law, company and industry information, reference directories and biographical sources. Produced by Lexis-Nexis. Coverage: varies; strong for 1980s-present. Updated daily.

LISTA - contains extensive abstracting and indexing content from over 600 of the library science industry's most well-known journals and periodicals.

Literature Resource Center - full-text access to biographical information on authors, literary criticisms, journal articles and essays, and links to web sites.

MediaReviewDigest (via FirstSearch) - reviews of educational media and entertainment resources.

Medline - A comprehensive database of biomedical literature produced by the National Library of Medicine, coverage 1966-present. Updated monthly. (Also see PubMed below)

MLA International Bibliography -Subjects: literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore. Contents: Provides access to scholarly research in over 4,000 journals and series published world-wide. Other materials indexed include books, dissertations, book chapters, & essay collections. No abstracts. Produced by the Modern
Language Association of America. Coverage: 1963-present. Updated 10 times yearly.

netLibrary - full-text electronic books, approximately 38,000 titles, covering all academic subject areas. These books are also in the online catalog. If you are off-campus, it's a good idea to create a personal account (you'll see the link to the right when you click on netlibrary. Your netlibrary account allows you to access the books remotely and to save notes and bookmarks.

North American Women's Letters and Diaries - sources from diaries, letters, and memories from Colonial to 1950

OAIster - a collection of freely available, academically-oriented digital resources that are easily searchable.

Occupational Outlook Online - searchable index to current career information.

Online Reference Books - over ten full-text encyclopedias covering subjects education, history, science, religion, and social science.

Oxford English Dictionary - full-text of the 22-volume 2nd ed. (definitions, word origins, quotations).

Papers First (via FirstSearch) - index to papers presented at conferences worldwide, 1993-

Polling the Nations - contains the full-text of 400,000 questions and responses from 14,000 surveys conducted by 700 polling organizations since 1986 in the US and 80 other countries.

Proceedings First (via FirstSearch) - index to worldwide conference proceedings, 1993-

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection - provides coverage of more than 550 full-text journals, including nearly 500 peer-reviewed titles. The database covers topics such as emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry & psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods. Nearly every full-text title included in this database is indexed in PsycINFO, a database of the American Psychological Association.

PsycINFO - Subjects: Psychology and related fields. Contents: Citations, most with abstracts, for more than 1,300 journals published in 50 countries & 28 languages. Also indexes books, dissertations, and technical reports. Produced by the American Psychological Association. Coverage: 1887-present. Updated monthly.

PLoS - Public Library of Science - Biology, Genetics, Medicine

PubMed - a service of the National Library of Medicine, provides access to over 12 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960's and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

Statesmans' Yearbook Online - provides accurate information on the current political, economic, and social status of every country.

Statistical Abstract of the United States - contains a collection of statistics on social and economic conditions in the US.

Union Lists (FirstSearch) - List of periodicals held by OCLC member libraries.

Working Women, 1870-1930 - Focuses on women's roles in the U.S. economy and provides access to digitized historical, manuscript, and image resources selected from Harvard University's library and museum collections.  The collection features approximately 500,000 digitized pages and images including 7,500 pages of manuscripts, 3,500 books and pamphlets, and 1,200 photographs. 

World Almanac (via FirstSearch) - the famous almanac online.

World FactBook - CIA maps and demographic information on countries and regions (published annually).

World Catalog (via FirstSearch)- Subjects: Every imaginable subject. Contents: The world’s most comprehensive bibliography, with over 37 million bibliographic records representing 370 languages.

WorldScope (via FirstSearch) - basic financial information on public companies worldwide.
