Quran
The Quran is the holy
book of Islam, held by tradition to have been revealed to the Prophet Muhammad
over a period of more than 23 years in the cities of Mecca and Medina.
English translations include those by Sayle, Pickthall, Dawood, and Ali.
The passages chosen give an idea of the range of themes in the Quran:
legislation (e.g., rules for divorce or inheritance), narration (e.g. the story
of Joseph), and exhortations (e.g. to remember the Day of Judgement, believe in
God and do good works).
